The Torta delle Rose was created for the wedding of Francesco II Gonzaga and Isabella D'Este. It was so appreciated by all the noblemen of the time that it became a part of Mantua’s gastronomic culture, and it is still made today following the ancient recipe.
The Torta delle Rose is made from a very soft leavened dough, rich in butter and sugar, which is rolled to form the characteristic shape of a basket of rosebuds, giving this delicious dessert its name. Best enjoyed dusted with powdered sugar and paired with a fragrant Chantilly cream.
